DISTRICT ATTENDANCE REVIEW BOARD

(DARB)

Connections for Families collaborates with local school districts to provide District Attendance Review Board (DARB) meetings. A referral is typically made to Connections for Families by a school professional with concerns regarding a student's attendance and/or academic performance.

A DARB meeting is often utilized by the school to create a plan to avoid a youth's involvement in truancy court and/or loss of credits. In a DARB meeting a youth's strengths and needs are discussed to create an attendance agreement, and factors contributing to a youth's truancy, chronic absenteeism, and/or poor academic performance are identified. The outcome of the meeting is an agreement with the youth, family, and school to implement strategies and actions to improve attendance and academic performance.
